The Storyline
Los Angeles Galaxy (15th in West, 0-6-3, 3pts) vs Portland Timbers (4th in West, 4-2-3, 15pts)
It was a wild 3-3 finish at Providence Park last Saturday night for Portland against LAFC. The scoreline perfectly reflecting the drama and intensity of the match. With his brace against LAFC, Felipe Mora etched his name further up the Timbers record books, cementing himself as the fourth most prolific scorer in Green and Gold history – third-most in the MLS era – with 43 goals and counting.
Head coach Phil Neville had high praise for the level of soccer played last Saturday night, stating "From a player’s point of view, that was a brilliant advertisement for MLS football."
Timbers-Galaxy will be an interesting matchup as Portland enters matchday 10 unbeaten in their last six matches while the defending MLS Cup champions are winless in 2025.
For the Timbers, the offense has been firing on all cylinders as of late, and they've outscored their opponents 14-7 since Matchday 4. LA on the other hand has been enduring the worst MLS Cup defense in MLS history through their first 10 matches, getting outscored 16-4. Designated Players Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec have returned to the lineup for the Galaxy, while Spanish midfielder Riqui Puig continues to rehabilitate a knee surgery.
