Matchday | Timbers head to BC Place for Cascadia bout with Whitecaps

Matchday 16x9 (VAN)
Portland and Vancouver face-off one last time in the regular season with the Cascadia Cup lead up for grabs. Watch the action live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

The Portland Timbers (8th, 12-10-8, 44pts) are headed back to Canada one more time this regular season for a final battle with Cascadia rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7th, 13-9-7, 46pts). The showdown at BC Place marks the second of two-straight road matches following the Timbers relentless battle with Real Salt Lake last Saturday in Utah. They'll be looking to take the momentum from the big 3-3 comeback draw at RSL, and apply it towards the ongoing and very much open Cascadia Cup race.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm PT. Stream the match on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV or join us at North 45 for the official Timbers watch party.

Scenarios: 2024 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs

Portland will clinch a berth Saturday in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs if:

  1. Portland win at Vancouver AND Dallas lose vs. Orlando AND Austin lose/draw vs. Salt Lake

The Opponent: Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7th, 13-9-7, 46 pts)

Following their Canadian Championship victory against CF Montréal on Wednesday night, the Vancouver Whitecaps remain at home to host the Timbers in a match that will have more than just three regular season points on the line – it will also have the Cascadia Cup lead up for grabs. Head coach Vanni Sartini has led the Whitecaps into the playoffs zone as the season winds down and they're aiming to hold onto one of the top seven spots in the Western Conference, thus avoiding a Wild Card match.

Leading out of the back is Japanese goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka who's only missed one game this season, registering 29 appearances. Defenders Ranko Veselinović (26 starts, 27 appearances) and Mathias Laborda (20 starts, 23 appearances) have had the most experience in the backline this season. Offensively, Vancouver has relied on Ryan Gauld to deliver both in goals (9) and assists (15) while Brian White has found his striking form with 14 goals (from 55 shots).

Notes & Numbers

63 and counting

Records keep getting broken in 2024 for the Timbers. With 63 goals scored through 30 matchdays, the Timbers are actively setting a new club record for goals scored in a single season. The previous record stood for nearly 10 years when Portland scored 60 goals in the 2014 season.

2 in 2 for #2

Timbers No. 2, defender Miguel Araujo, has been displaying finesse in his last couple matches. The Peruvian international has racked up an assist in each of the last two games, marking three total for the season.

16 in final 15

Always dangerous in the final stretch, the Timbers are rarely out of scoring possibilities after the match clock hits 75 minutes. With 16 goals scored in the final 15 minutes of matches, Portland sits tied with the Colorado Rapids for most in MLS so far this season.
