The Storyline
Heading into Matchday 2, Portland will look to take some positives from last week's loss to Vancouver into this weekend: Primarily the Timbers debuts of various new faces. Head coach Phil Neville had praise for defenders Jimer Fory and rookie Ian Smith, new Designated Player David Da Costa – who made his debut coming on for the second half – and highlighted forward Kevin Kelsy's no-quit attitude.
Portland last hosted Austin on Oct. 2, 2024 with the visitors taking a 1-0 win. The Timbers lead the all-time MLS series with five wins, three loses, and only one draw through nine matches. Saturday's showdown marks the only visit Austin makes to the Rose City in the 2025 regular season. The two will meet once more on Apr. 5 in Austin.
