For the second time this month, the Timbers will head to Central America for a CONCACAF Champions League match when they square off with with CD Dragón on Tuesday night (7:00pm PT, Facebook Stream). Here are five numbers to know for #CDDvPOR in a special CCL edition of Quick Strikes.
6 El Salvador is the sixth different country that the Timbers have played a competitive match since the club's founding in 1975. The Central American nation joins the U.S., Canada, Guyana, Honduras, and El Salvador.
45,000 The match will take place at El Salvador's national stadium, Estadio Cuscatlán, which has a FIFA-limited capacity of 45,000 and is in the country's capital, San Salvador. The stadium is 85 miles from Dragón's usual home stadium, which is in San Miguel.
2 Midfielder Diego Valeri has a two-game goal-scoring streak in CCL games in 2016 having scored a goal apiece in each of the club’s matches in Group B. He scored the game-winning goal against Dragón on Aug. 3 and had the opening goal against Saprissa on Sept. 14.
9 Dragón has struggled so far in its domestic season. The club opened its campaign with a nine-game league winless streak before finally recording a victory last Wednesday, when they overcame a two-goal deficit to beat Chalatenango, 4-3.
4 In the first matchup between the two teams, Timbers forward Jack McInerney scored his fourth goal in CCL competition. McInenery has scored four goals in the CCL, the U.S. Open Cup, and the Amway Canadian Championship.
