Santiago had a goal and assist in win over RSL, Juan David Mosquera listed to the bench
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielder Santiago Moreno was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for matchday 29, the league announced today. Additionally, Portland defender Juan David Mosquera was listed to the bench. Moreno helped the Timbers to a 2-1 victory against Real Salt Lake on Aug. 30 with a goal and an assist, while Mosquera tallied an assist in his 90-minute performance.
Moreno, 24, registered his first goal of the year in Wednesday’s match, becoming the 15th player to score for Portland this season. He also tallied his team-leading eighth assist of the 2023 campaign. Starting in 21 of 23 appearances in the 2023 campaign, Moreno has recorded 10 points this season (1G, 8A).
Mosquera, 20, tallied his fifth assist of the season in a 90-minute performance against Real Salt Lake. With nine points (2G, 5A) in 2023, Mosquera has started in 21 of 22 appearances for Portland. Notably, Mosquera recorded goal contributions in back-to-back matches.
The Timbers will face a quick turnaround as they travel to face Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, Sept. 2, at Lumen Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm PT on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish as well as local radio broadcasts, 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
