August was busier than ever for Portland Timbers players, coaches and front office staff. The team worked to get the community ready for school by filling backpacks with UPS and Schoolhouse Supplies to be delivered to Jason Lee Elementary School, visited hospitals and more. Stand Together All-Stars
Brothers Brayden and Spencer Rutledge are the Stand Together All-Stars for August. Brayden and Spencer focus on helping those without homes, particularly in the area surrounding the Burnside Bridge. Together, they have gathered hundreds of sleeping bags and collected cans to help. To congratulate the pair, Timber Joey and Timbers midfielder Freddie Braun visited and played video games with them.
Portland Timbers Corporate Cup benefits Portland YouthBuilders
The second annual Portland Timbers Corporate Cup concluded play on August 18th at JELD-WEN Field. This adult soccer tournament benefitted Timbers’ Pillar Partner Portland YouthBuilders, a non-profit helping low-income youth make long-term positive changes in their lives. Fourteen company teams from the Pacific Northwest participated in the tournament in three divisions. Tursi’s Soccer Supply, Nike, Widmer Brothers and Lompoc Brewing earned the right to play in the finals. In the end, Nike took home gold in all three divisions winning the co-ed, men’s recreational and men’s competitive brackets.
Schoolhouse Supplies
Mamadou “Futty” Danso, Portland Timbers front office staff and UPS joined Schoolhouse Supplies to fill over 500 backpacks for Jason Lee Elementary School students. Delivering the packs on the first day of school has been an eight-year tradition of the Portland Timbers. Freddie Braun and Sebastián Rincón will deliver them in early September.
Brother’s Day Fundraiser with Big Brothers Big Sisters
Timber Joey, David Horst and Jake Gleeson joined Big Brothers Big Sisters for their annual Brother’s Day event at Widmer Brothers. Big Brothers Big Sisters sold Reserve game packages and raffled off prizes to benefit their Sports Buddies program.
Jack Jewsbury, Sal Zizzo, Danny Mwanga and Kosuke Kimura visit local hospitals
Timbers players Jack Jewsbury and Sal Zizzo visited the Providence Center for Medically Fragile Children to participate in soccer-related activities for Camp PLAY. Camp PLAY is a day camp designed to meet the unique needs of the residents and provide them with typical childhood experiences.
Danny Mwanga and Kosuke Kimura also visited Shriners Hospital for Children to sign autographs, play foosball, air hockey and table tennis.
Darlington Nagbe and Freddie Braun hold clinic for NBC show Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest
Darlington Nagbe and Freddie Braun showed off their skills to Big Brothers Big Sisters at a clinic at adidas Village. The clinic was filmed and will appear on MLS 36 on NBC Sports.
Bright Dike, Chris Taylor, Ian Hogg and Jose Adolfo Valencia play with KeyBank LTFC members at annual LTFC Bash
Bright Dike, Chris Taylor, Ian Hogg and Jose Adolfo Valencia met KeyBank Little Timbers Fan Club members at JELD-WEN Field for their annual LTFC Bash. The kids enjoyed lunch, played on the field, met the players and tried to outkick Bright Dike’s speed-kick of 104 miles per hour.
