Timbers' 2011 Corporate Cup raises $10,000 for Portland YouthBuilders

2011 Corporate Cup

PORTLAND, Ore.— This past Saturday, the Timbers hosted the finals of the 2011 Corporate Cup at JELD-WEN Field. Four teams from local businesses Nike, Tursi’s Soccer Store and UPS squared off on the Timbers’ home pitch in front of a crowd of over 500 supporters to decide the winners of the inaugural Corporate Cup.

In the men’s championship, Nike continued its dominant run through the tournament with a 5-1 win over UPS, firing nearly 30 shots on goal.

But the Nike co-ed team could not complete the sweep, instead falling 3-1 to a team from Tursi’s Soccer Store.

The event, which also included the qualifying matches on the weekend of July 8-10, raised $10,000 for Timbers Community Pillar Partner, Portland YouthBuilders (PYB), through entry fees, ticket sales and a raffle.

Through that raffle, a Nike employee, on hand to cheer on his colleagues, won a Timbers’ team-signed Rose City Red authentic jersey and an XBOX 360 gaming console.

Mascot Timber Joey was on hand for the event, posing for photos with players and their children and assisting with the raffle drawings and trophy presentations.

Teams from adidas, CMD Agency, and Wieden + Kennedy also participated in the 2011 Corporate Cup.

Soccer for a Great Cause – Portland YouthBuilders (PYB)
The Timbers Community Pillar Partnership with PYB is presented by D.R. Horton. The Portland Timbers and D.R. Horton will partner with Portland YouthBuilders on a community service project in conjunction with MLS W.O.R.K.S. Community Service Program. PYB provides life-changing opportunities to very low-income youth. All of the young people served by Portland YouthBuilders have dropped out of high school and come to PYB for a chance at creating a better, brighter future. Through an integrated program of education, vocational training, leadership development, and personalized counseling, PYB students acquire the tools and skills they need to move out of poverty and into self-sufficiency.
