Timbers announce clubs for expanded Adopt-A-Club program in 2012

Sal Zizzo, Adopt A Club, 2011

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Timbers today announced the 20 local youth soccer clubs selected to participate in the Timbers’ expanded Adopt-a-Club program, presented by CenturyLink, in 2012. Through the program, the Timbers provide players and coaches to serve as mentors to the youth club’s players and coaches throughout the season.

The Timbers, in partnership with CenturyLink, successfully launched their Adopt-a-Club program during their inaugural MLS season in 2011, providing mentorship for six youth clubs across the Portland-metro area and Southwest Washington. In 2012, the program expands to 20 youth clubs reaching from Brush Prairie, Wash., to Roseburg, Ore., and will include the participation of 25 Timbers players.

Among the exclusive Adopt-a-Club benefits, the participating clubs receive a private clinic run by the club’s mentor Timbers player, a coaching clinic conducted by a Timbers coach and alumni ambassador Scot Thompson, and on-field recognition of one selected youth player from the club at an upcoming Timbers home match at JELD-WEN Field.

The 2012 Adopt-a-Club program, presented by CenturyLink, formally kicks off Monday, April 9, at a luncheon with representatives from all 20 clubs held at JELD-WEN Field. Each of the 20 youth clubs were selected from a large number of applicants.
