The Portland Timbers went into the weekend with their place in the Leagues Cup Round of 32 already secured. And after a series of matches played out Sunday, it was learned that the Timbers will play host to Liga MX side C.F. Monterrey in the next round at Providence Park.
The Timbers finished Leagues Cup group play as the runner-up in group West 1. Monterrey was the winner of group West 2.

The Round of 32 begins the knockout stage of Leagues Cup. Here is what to expect in the knockout rounds:
- Single game elimination to move on to the next round.
- The knockout rounds begin with the Round of 32, with four games in each region for a total of 16 matches.
- The winners from the Round of 32 will face off in the Round 16, which will consist of eight matches, and then continue on to the Quarterfinals, where eight teams will vie for a chance to be their region’s champion.
- The four winners of the Quarterfinals will compete in the Semifinals.
- The losers of the Semifinals will compete in a third place match.
- The winners of the Semifinals will compete in the Leagues Cup Final on Saturday, Aug. 19.
The knockout bracket below will be filled in when the group stage wraps up with final matches on Monday. The Round of 32 begins Wednesday, Aug. 2.
