PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today selected three players in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft presented by Adidas. The Timbers selected defender Justin Rasmussen from Grand Canyon University in the first round (No. 27 overall), defender Julian Bravo from Santa Clara University in the second round (No. 55 overall) and Sivert Haugli from Virginia Tech University in the third round (No. 83 overall).
Rasmussen, 23, was selected by the Timbers after a five-year career at Grand Canyon, logging 55 appearances (38 starts). The Las Vegas, Nev. native tallied 16 goals and 12 assists for the Lopes and was named to the Hermann Trophy watch list in 2021. Rasmussen earned the No. 45 spot in the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason National Top 100, earning the WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and All-WAC first team. As a senior, Rasmussen became the first NCAA All-American in program history after being named to the third team.
Bravo, 21, concluded a four-year career at Santa Clara University, logging 55 appearances (23 starts). The Claremont, Calif. native scored four goals and tallied six assists for the Broncos and finished second on the team in assists (2). In 2019, Bravo led the team in points with eight after logging three goals and two assists.
Haugli, 22, made 71 appearances (all starts) at Virginia Tech, scoring four goals and tallying three assists in his four-year career. The Oslo, Norway native was named the No. 39 overall player in the country by Top Drawer Soccer. In 2020-21, Haugli led the team in minutes played (1,541) and earned Academic Honor Roll accolades in 2020.
