Mosquera’s contract will see him through 2027 with a club option in 2028
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers announced today that the club has signed defender Juan David Mosquera to a contract extension through the 2027 season with a club option in 2028.
“Juan is deserving of this new contract, and it speaks to his development and impact during his time since joining the Portland Timbers,” said Timbers General Manager Ned Grabavoy. “We are excited to continue supporting his growth, and believe he is a player with a very bright future.”
Mosquera, 21, has made 32 regular season appearances (29 starts) since joining Portland in July of 2022. The Cali, Colombia native went on to make 29 appearances (27 starts) in the 2023 season, scoring his first professional goal in a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City in February. Mosquera has registered two goals and six assists and finished the 2023 campaign with the second-most assists on the team. Notably, Mosquera was named to the MLS 22 Under 22 list in October of last year. Amongst all MLS defenders, Mosquera finished the season first overall in fast breaks (4), fourth in successful crosses from open play (23), tied for fifth in assists (6) and ninth in chances created from open play (28).
Internationally, Mosquera has made appearances for Colombia’s youth and senior national teams. The defender made his debut with Colombia’s senior team on January 28, 2023, when he started in the match against the U.S. Men’s National Team logging a full 90-minute performance. Most recently, Mosquera joined the Colombian U-23 Men’s National Team for the FIFA international period in January for the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament. The Colombian international joined the senior national team for the fifth time in his career in December of 2023, logging two 90-minute appearances against Venezuela and Mexico. In September of 2023, Mosquera received a callup into Colombia’s U-23 Men’s National Team to play two friendlies against Mexico to prepare for the 2023 Pan American XIX Games and the 2024 South American Pre-Olympic Tournament.
