Portland advanced from the West 1 Group in second place with a 2-0 win over San Jose Earthquakes (July 22) and a 2-1 loss against Tigres UANL (July 26), both at Providence Park. Evander and Felipe Mora sealed the win with a goal each against San Jose while Evander tallied the lone goal for the Timbers against Tigres, registering his second goal in the tournament.

This is the first official competition in the world to involve two leagues and be sanctioned by their Confederation.
