All five goalkeepers nominated for MLS Save of the Week put in hard-working shifts this week, making a range of jaw-dropping stops to put themselves in the running for the Week 11 SOTW award.
Portland’s Ghana international Adam Kwarasey stoned DaMarcus Beasley in Houston to earn a place in this race. Vote for Kwarasey!
His competition? Columbus Crew SC fell 2-0 on the road at San Jose on Sunday, and Steve Clark was a busy man between the Black-and-Gold’s posts, making six saves, one of which was a real gem to deny Matias Perez Garcia.
D.C. United’s Bill Hamid was another standout in a losing cause, as he got the SOTW nomination for a fine stop on Conor Casey in the Philadelphia Union’s 1-0 win at PPL Park. Toronto FC’s Chris Konopka played a major role in the Reds’ 1-1 road draw at New England, and his agile parry of a Juan Agudelo header was the highlight of a hectic night at Gillette Stadium while Donovan Ricketts produced a super save on a Nick DeLeon effort in Orlando City’s 2-1 loss at D.C. United in midweek.
