Michael Nanchoff

Nanchoff joins the Timbers in 2013 after playing his first two professional seasons in MLS with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He was selected No. 8 overall as a member of Generation adidas by Vancouver in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft after a standout collegiate career at the University of Akron. Nanchoff played under Timbers head coach Caleb Porter at Akron and helped the Zips make back-to-back NCAA College Cup finals appearances (2009-10) and win the national championship in 2010.

2015: Came on as a late sub on Oct. 14 against Real Salt Lake ... Played seven minutes as a sub on July 11 at Philadelphia ... Logged 16 minutes as a substitute in a U.S. Open Cup match on July 1 against Real Salt Lake ... Played 15 minutes against LA on June 24 ... Was in the game-day 18 on June 20 against Houston ... Made six appearances on loan with T2, recording two goals and two assists ... Underwent successful surgery to repair a sports hernia on March 16 ... Made a late-game substitute appearance, attempting two shots- including one cleared off the goal line - in a scoreless draw against Real Salt Lake on March 7. 

2014: Made one start in three appearances during the 2014 season ... Tallied a goal and two assists in three appearances (three starts) in CONCACAF Champions League play ... Played 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over Orlando City U23s in the U.S. Open Cup on June 17 ... Made his first start of the season, playing 58 minutes in a 2-0 win over Chivas USA on May 28 ... Made his first appearance of the season, playing 13 minutes as a second-half substitute and registering one shot in a loss at Real Salt Lake April 19.

2013: Played in four games (3 starts) across all competitions for the Timbers ... Played the full 90, registering one goal and one assist in a 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies (NASL) in the Fourth Round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 12 at JELD-WEN Field ... Featured in the club's 1-0 win over Mexico's Monarcas Morelia in a friendly July 3 at JELD-WEN Field, helping the club claim the inaugural Copa Verde ... Made one regular-season appearance on July 7, playing eight minutes as a substitute against the Columbus Crew ... Was loaned to Swedish club Jönköpings Södra IF on July 9 for the remainder of the season ... Played in 11 league games (10 starts) for Jönköpings Södra IF in Sweden's Superettan (second division), recording two goals and one assist ... Started all five of his appearances for the Timbers Reserves during the MLS Reserve League season, finishing as the team's second-leading scorer with four goals and one assist ... Tallied a brace in the Timbers Reserves 2-1 win over the Earthquakes Reserves on April 15 at JELD-WEN Field ... Scored a penalty-kick goal and assisted on the game-winning strike by Jose Valencia in a 2-1 win for the Timbers Reserves over VSI Tampa Bay FC of USL PRO on April 7 at JELD-WEN Field.

2012: Played in nine regular-season matches with Vancouver Whitecaps FC … Made five of his nine league appearances on the road … Started match at Chicago on July 14, playing 59 minutes of a 1-0 loss … Started eight games for the Whitecaps FC Reserves in the MLS Reserve League, playing 656 minutes and logging two assists … Assisted on a goal by Darren Mattocks in a 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers Reserves on May 27 … Assisted on a strike by Carlyle Mitchell in a 2-1 victory against Seattle Sounders FC Reserves on June 1.

2006-09: Played four seasons with the Cleveland Internationals of the PDL between college seasons … In total, appeared in 38 matches, logging 3,209 minutes and recording seven goals and 10 assists with the Internationals … Recorded assists on a pair of goals scored by former college teammate and current Timbers teammate Darlington Nagbe in a 3-2 loss to the Indiana Invaders on July 29, 2009 … Named to the PDL’s All-Central Conference Team in 2008 after registering 17 points on six goals and five assists that season and leading Cleveland to the postseason … Had a one-goal, two-assist performance in a 5-1 win over the Cincinnati Kings on June 27, 2008 … Was coached by his father, George, during each of his four seasons with the team.

COLLEGE: Had a standout collegiate career at the University of Akron, playing three seasons for the Zips … Was a key contributor in Akron’s back-to-back NCAA College Cup final appearances in 2009 and 2010 and helped the Zips win the national championship in 2010 … Recorded nine goals and nine assists in 25 games during his final collegiate season in 2010, garnering All-Mid-American Conference first-team, NSCAA All-Great Lakes second-team and NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team honors … Assisted on Akron's match-winning goal in the NCAA College Cup semifinal win over University of Michigan on Dec. 10, 2010 … Named to the All-MAC first team and ranked among the nation’s leaders with 11 assists as a redshirt sophomore in 2009 … Tied an Akron record with four assists in one match, contributing to a 6-0 win over Bowling Green State University on Sept. 26, 2009, and was subsequently named the Soccer America National Player of the Week … Finished among the Akron’s top scorers in each of his final two seasons … Redshirted his sophomore season in 2008 … In total, played in 62 matches and recorded 15 goals and 22 assists during his collegiate career with the Zips … Helped lead the Zips to three MAC tournament championships (2007, 2009-10) and three NCAA tournament appearances … Was one of an MLS-record five Akron players selected among the first eight picks of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.

PERSONAL: Studied sport and exercise science while at Akron … Led Walsh Jesuit High School (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) to the Division II state championship as a senior in 2006, and was named an NSCAA All-American, to the All-Ohio First Team and the Cleveland Plain Dealer Player of the Year that season … Product of a soccer family, father, George, and uncle, Louie, were All-Americans at the University of Akron in the 1970s and went on to play professionally in the original North American Soccer League and the Major Indoor Soccer League … Both relatives each earned 10 caps and scored one goal with the U.S. National Team during their playing careers.
