Timbers sign George Josten and Josh Cameron

PORTLAND, Ore. –
The Portland Timbers have signed a pair of Northwest products for the 2009 season in forward
George Josten
and midfielder
Josh Cameron
, it was announced today. Both Josten and Cameron attended the Timbers’ recent invitation tryout at PGE Park.




“George and Josh each performed well and made an impression during our tryouts this year,” said
Gavin Wilkinson
, general manager and head coach of the Timbers. “George is an intelligent player with a proven ability to finish. Josh is very athletic and his versatility adds depth to our midfield and offensive presence.”




Last season, Josten, 22, was a member of Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew, which captured the 2008 MLS Cup. Selected 20th overall in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, he recorded one goal and two assists in 11 MLS Reserve Division matches as a rookie. Josten, a native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, played his collegiate career at Gonzaga University, where he ranks among the school’s all-time leaders in scoring with 34 goals and 17 assists. Among his several accolades, Josten became the first Gonzaga player to garner All-America honors in 2007 and was selected to the Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to his senior season.




Cameron joins the Timbers for his rookie season in 2009. At Oregon State University, Cameron, 22, played in 73 games and totaled four goals and 11 assists. He led the Beavers in assists in each of his final two seasons, and his seven assists as junior in 2007 paced the Pac-10. Cameron was a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic selection during his collegiate career. A native of Gresham, Ore., Cameron attended Centennial High School, where he was an all-state selection and the Mt. Hood Conference Player of the Year as a senior in 2004.




Additionally, the Timbers announced today the release of midfielder
Bryan Little
. Last season, Little, 30, played 641 minutes over 17 matches and recorded one assist.
