PORTLAND, Ore. – Major League Soccer today named Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey the winner of the 2015 MLS Save of the Year for his leaping, fingertip save on a well-struck shot from distance by Real Salt Lake midfielder Luke Mulholland Aug. 15 in a 1-0 win against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
With the score tied 0-0 in the 31st minute, Mulholland delivered a one-time volley from long range that Kwarasey was able to get his fingertips on to push the ball wide of the upper, left corner. The MLS Save of the Year was determined by an online fan vote on MLSsoccer.com; 32 initial nominees for the award were eventually narrowed to two finalists in a bracket-style format. In the final voting, Kwarasey beat out Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper David Ousted’s point-blank reaction save on forward Andrew Wenger May 9 at BC Place in Vancouver.
